WordPress for a Site With Hulu-Like Functionality

This post is a follow up on the article Toni Ellison wrote in December, “Get a Simple Website Using a Blog.”

When you think of a blog or a WordPress site, it is usually a small to medium-size website with copy, text, images, and videos sprinkled here and there. But what about a site packed with video?

I came across a website called “rurem” also known as russianremote.com. It is a website similar to hulu.com. It offers streaming video of movies, TV shows, and music from various Russian TV channels. It offers user registration and signup, although some movies do not require you to sign in or register. It also has polls, search, and a social media toolbar that make this website a little more engaging for the user. Would WordPress be your first choice for a site like this? After all, this is just another video gallery. The answer would depend on many factors, such as company size, budget, and resources available.

What this website shows, however, is that just because a company uses a certain technology or platform for their site, it does not mean you have to follow them.
