About the Project

Delegate Dave Albo has represented the 42nd district since 1994 and is the most senior Northern Virginia member of the Republican Party in the Virginia House of Delegates. Delegate Albo contacted Balance Interactive to create a website for his 2009 campaign that would expand his web presence and reach his constituents with his position on the issues.

Balance helped the campaign launch an engaging website in time for the fall election season. The website had an immediate positive impact on the campaign, getting tremendous traffic and increasing the number of campaign volunteers.

Focus on Search Engine Optimization

Delegate Albo wanted to be visible for the issues that he is passionate about – roads and rail, education, taxation and more. Balance keyword research identified the words and phrases to use to gain that exposure. The campaign also received a Search Engine Optimization Strategy that was customized to their specific goals. Both documents provided items for immediate action as well as activities to drive ongoing effectiveness.

Social Media

A Social Media Strategy was developed for the campaign that integrated the campaign website, blogs, Facebook presence and more to develop a highly visible online presence. All these components invite voter engagement. Campaign staff were trained on how to encourage online engagement and how to create effective online relationships.

Design that Engages

Dave Albo wanted to offer a personal, engaging website. The site design features vibrant photos of his family and of his career. Visitors get a good feel for the candidate’s personality and for his commitment to service. The design allows the candidate to share key position statements as well as timely information. It connects with the campaign’s off-line materials to contribute to a cohesive look and feel for all campaign efforts.

Content Management with WordPress

The website is built on the WordPress content management system (CMS). Campaign staff can easily maintain all the content and provide up-to-the-minute updates. An integrated Action Center allows visitors to support the campaign through their interest, time or donations. Plug-ins allow each page to be optimized for visibility in search engines and allow the campaign to collect sign-ups for email alerts.
