Reston Association Website Redesign

About the Project

Reston Association needed a new website that would engage the community and foster the ideals of living, working, playing and getting involved in the Reston area. In addition, it needed to adopt an easy to use content management system (CMS) that would enable multiple staff members to maintain content across the site, while still leaving overall control in the hands of a central authority.

The Balance Interactive solution included:

Fresh Design

In the first phase of the project, Balance Interactive partnered with Hinge to develop and deploy a fresh new look and feel on the chosen CMS: DotNetNuke (DNN). Balance Interactive leveraged its expertise with DNN and skinned the new framework to perfectly meet Reston’s requirements.

Maximize Use of Content Management System

In the second phase of the project, Balance Interactive worked closely with Reston Association’s internal and third-party development teams to recommend and implement specific DNN modules such as the calendar module, forms module and font re-sizer module. In addition, Balance Interactive created custom functionality such as the ability to dynamically change sub-head graphic elements, a design element that had previously been static. Adding this functionality greatly increased the visual appeal across the entire site.

Focus on the User

Prior to launch, Balance Interactive also helped with the site content and graphics and developed a custom user test plan to be implemented by Reston staff members.

Maintenance and Support

After site launch, Balance Interactive team members continued to support the website. Site features are optimized, and new functionality is added. The site is changed to reflect current priorities and activities. Updates are made to maximize the ease of use by Reston staff members.
