Web Designer

Balance Interactive is seeking the immediate support of a Web Designer.

We are looking for someone with a passion for quality design and well organized content on the web. The web designer will work on client projects under the guidance of the Balance Creative Director.

This is a contract, telecommute position with a flexible commitment of hours per week. Local candidates only.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

• Strong visual design and understanding of usability best practices
• Ability to design user interfaces from rough wireframes or conceptual designs
• Strong understanding of web design principles, interface & information design
• Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, etc.)
• Knowledge of limitations when converting to HTML and CSS
• Ability to hand-code HTML, CSS
• Understanding user-centered design methodologies and practices, in particular the role of design in creating usable and effective web interfaces
• Passion for information design, visual design, interaction design and user experience
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to meet tight deadlines
• Detailed and organized
• Problem solver who knows when to ask questions

Skills and Experience Required

• BA/BS degree in Web Design, Graphic Design or web related technologies preferred but not required.
• 2-3 years of proven agency experience or related hands-on web experience
• Strong understanding of web standards, usability and accessibility

Bonus Skills

• Experience with online charting and data visualization
• Flash and ActionScript
• Experience designing for mobile
• Familiarity with of any content management system, including Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, DotNetNuke and/or Ektron
